Getting Rid of Cold Sores Fast

Finding the best way of getting rid of cold sores fast, and permanently, is the ultimate desire of millions of cold sore victims all over the world. Medical scientists have been working feverishly to solve the problem of getting rid of cold sores.

If you are reading this, you are quite likely suffering the discomfort of one of these unsightly cold sores as we speak.

In this article, your search for a good way to get rid of a cold sore may just be over.

Because nearly 90% of the world population carries the cold sore virus, drug companies see an absolutely huge market. Many of these companies are not shy about copying each other and throwing just about anything out there as a cold sore treatment.

Imagine the many millions, if not billions of dollars, spent each year on remedies for getting rid of cold sores, and other viral illnesses like colds and flu.

The direct approach - using a topical salve or other remedy - is the still the best way of treating cold sores.

Some of the ingredients common to most of these over-the-counter cold sore remedies are lysine, zinc, vitamin E and C, and a numbing agent, and a germ killer.

A numbing agent really helps provide blessed comfort for two to three hours at a time. It will not help heal any faster but you will feel better.

Lysine is a well proven cold sore remedy - as well as other herpes simplex outbreaks - but the studies show it best used as an internal remedy. (Vitamins C and E are generally proven as internal remedies also). As a topical remedy, there is little, if any, proof of lysine being good for getting rid of cold sores.

Zinc is considered the healing mineral, and has proven to be a strong remedy to get rid of a cold sore. Zinc, as with most minerals, absorbs very poorly internally, unless the source is real food. Externally, absorption is even worse. Most of the zinc based remedies for getting rid of cold sores contain zinc sulfate - which is a zinc and sulfur molecule combination that absorbs much better than, say, zinc oxide.

The most absorbable form of zinc, however, is zinc gluconate - which is a combination of zinc and glucose. It can be purchased for about half the price of the zinc sulfate products - and it works quite well.

Look for a product called "Zicam". It does not even claim to be a cold sore treatment but just a cold relief remedy. It is absolutely awesome for curing and preventing colds and flu. Best news is it works fast to get rid of a cold sore.

My observation here in Northwestern Wisconsin - cold sores usually last 3 to 4 weeks. That is measured from when the first tingle is felt to the last red spot disappears. Cutting this duration in half would be a huge improvement in your social life.

A lady, by the name of Grace, stumbled on an incredible home remedy for getting rid of cold sores that has been shown to totally heal cold sores in 2 to 3 days. I know it sounds incredible but it is no lie! The neat thing is - you probably have everything in your cupboard right now.
